Description
This compilation of songs by Auguste Linstant de Pradines, known as Candio, is designed to contribute to the memory of Haitian songs. It is an initiative to safeguard Haiti's intangible cultural heritage. The transcription of the Creole and French texts, with hyphens and apostrophes deliberately retained, facilitates the reading and understanding of the texts, particularly in terms of the scores.
In order to protect the originality of the work, we have voluntarily transcribed the songs as created by the composer at the end of the 19th century, in French or Creole, and sometimes even using both languages in the same song.
It is the same for the name “Candio,” for which we have kept the spellings used by Jacques Stephen Alexis and Aug. A. Héraux, editor of Auguste Linstant de Pradines' scores.
So, you will find this name written in two ways: Candio and Candjo.
Karine Margron
Design, research, compilation, musical writing, and layout.
Julio Racine
Arrangements, musical writing, general supervision.
Fabien Dodard
Design and creation of the cover.
